Every registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a particular web hosting company. In this way, you've got both your website and your e-mails managed by the same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, whenever you type a domain address in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means that you may have your website and your emails with two different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud hosting through us, you'll be able to view, create and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. So long as a specific domain name has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify specific records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or e-mails directed to any other company if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool will even allow you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain at all. If you choose to use the e-mail services of another provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with only a couple of mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you'll be able to view and change the A and MX records for any one of the domains or subdomains which you host within the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you will get to handle the account, comes with an sophisticated, although easy-to-use tool in which all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to change their records with no more than several clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it'll be just as easy - choose the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you are going to be ready. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case that you want to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records apart from the 2 default ones. If you experience any problems, we have a detailed Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or change any record.
